Reports from Italy claim that Roma are close to secure the services of Sevilla’s midfield talent Steven Nzonzi. According to Calciomercato, the La Magica are only waiting for Crystal Palace to seal a deal worth £8.9 m for their midfielder Maxime Gonalons. This deal would understandably raise cash for Nzonzi’s acquisition.
Arsenal have been in the race to sign Steven Nzonzi along with Roma and Barcelona, as mentioned by the daily star. The 29-year old French international has a £30m price tag which Arsenal will have to trigger, in order to get this thing going. Nzonzi has worked under Unai Emery’s leadership before at the La Liga club.
Explaining why Arsenal have not made a move yet (and will not, probably), Sky Sports man Kaveh Solhekol reckons the Gunners wouldn’t be paying such an amount for the defensive midfielder, as reported by the Express. Speaking to Sky Sports, Solhekol said “He has a £35million release clause which is too much for Arsenal at the moment. But Roma are looking at him as a potential replacement for Radja Nainggolan. We are also told Barcelona are interested in him.’’
With £70 m already spent and 6 players entering the dressing room this transfer season, the Gunner’s will have to be really selective depending on their most immediate priority and budget.
