It looks like Jose Mourhino just got one less admirer in the Spanish capital. Reports from Spain have poured in that Real Madrid’s midfielder Mateo Kovacic has been approached by Manchester United.
According to Marca, the Red Devils have shown serious intent in the Los Blancos star with an offer of 60 million euros. Despite the fact that the former Inter Milan star wants to leave the Bernabeu, Kovacic has excused himself from joining the Premier League giants, mainly due to Mourhino’s uncanny managerial style.
Mateo Kovacic’s desire to move to a top Premier League club has been under discussion since the first week of July, and the player has been strongly linked to Old Trafford. Kovacic expressed his desire to move away from the Bernabeu just after Zinedine Zidane left the club unexpectedly. It is understood the Croatian international is unhappy with being sidelined, and hopes to find more game time in a top PL club.
While Mourhino comes to terms with Kovacic’s cold shoulder, it looks like new Real Madrid boss Julen Lopentegui will have a lot of mending to do. The new boss has already made Bale feel special pouring water over rumors hinting the Welshman may be exiting the Bernabeu, as reported by the Mirror. Now the ex-goal keeper may have to make Kovacic feel important enough that he postpones his decision.
The versatile talent only started 10 times with Real Madrid last season, and is tied with the Spanish giants till 2021.
