Finally some good news for the Spurs fans, as Tottenham are cited to be closing in on two targets including Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish, according to Sky Sports. With only four days to go, Mauricio Pochettino’s side have yet to make any acquisitions this transfer season.
Last year Spur fans were biting their nails till the last minute, when Tottenham bagged five deals in eight days, starting off their first signing in the second-last week of August during last year’s summer season. One of the causes for the last minute sightings this year is Pochettino not being supported by the board. Going further back, even in 2016 we saw Georges-Kevin Nkoudou and Moussa Sissoko’s deals finalized on the deadline day.
The late entry pattern has not really paid off, since Nkoudou and Sissoko’s last minute agreements didn’t really work out well. According to Sky Sports, Tottenham are looking to secure two signings since Mousa Dembele, Danny Rose and Toby Alderweireld are strongly being linked with a move away from the Wembley Stadium.
One of Pochettino’s targets is believed to be Villa’s Jack Grealish, while the second shall depend on which of the three stars exit first.
Grealish bagged three goals last season with six assists under his belt, putting him on Tottenham’s watch-list. The 22-year old starlet has been associated with the Spurs on-and-off, with hopes of a deal to be concluded before the amended deadline day (Thursday).
Toby Alderweireld and Dembele are tied with the Spurs till summer 2019, with the former being linked to Manchester United (Metro) for the past three weeks, whereas Dembele has been paired to AC Milan and Inter.
No formal offers have yet been made for the Belgian centre-back, but, if Alderweireld does end up leaving with Rose, Pochettino will gravely need to find replacements. This basically brings us back to the notion that the buying and selling this year should have been done much earlier.
